Last week of this Recovery/ Off Season phase….. DONE! Tomorrow Olympia prep starts. No check in on Saturday this week as we want a fresh starting point from Monday. Check in will resume on a Saturday next weekend.
This week has been less than ideal. We initially started the week with a 4 – 5 day deload. Always planned in the lead up to prep but it ended up being the whole week.
We had a devastating week, our little frenchie, Ruby, sadly had to be put to sleep on thursday. She was my bestie. Been through it all. Having only been in Dans life for a year, she still made a massive impact on him and Manu. We are all reeling from this.
As a result, appetite tanked….. zero interest in food. Training is very far from my mind right now. You may think this is not the attitude to have pre starting Prep for the biggest show of my life but sometimes, we need to not be bodybuilders for a bit. Even Pros.
Bodybuilding is so consuming. It is absolutely fine to take a few days away to allow life to happen and process. I could have pushed on, made myself train, but my concern was that I wouldn’t process what had happened properly if I focused on training. We put so much pressure on ourselves to be consistent, to turn up every day and keep progressing, there are times when we need to step back. Be a normal person and let life sink in. Bodybuilding will resume on monday. With my full attention, having allowed myself to grieve.
Sorry this isn’t the excited pre prep post I planned. My goal is to always be honest. To show that I am not a robot. And maybe help someone else give themselves some compassion and space in a difficult time. If you need space from the gym…. that is absolutely fine. Stop beating yourself up (I mean if you miss the gym because you just can’t be assed… that’s different)
Wow… What a week!
It’s been all things Full Boar for 4 out of the last 7 days. Lots of exciting things on the way to the site. We took a trip up to Full Boar HQ to do some bits and bobs. Keep your eyes peeled.
No changes off the back of Saturday’s check in with Dan. Appetite is on the downward trajectory again, which I guess is a good think with Olympia prep due to start in a few weeks. This has meant a few skipped meals but we will see how the 3 off plans I had during the week balance out those missed meals this weekend. Something Dan and I talked about was “post off plan meal guilty”, something I was guilty of in the past but now have managed to shake. In off season, you shouldn’t feel guilty for those off plans when they arises. They are important “life – ing” moments with friends/ loved ones and should be enjoyed, rather than allowing yourself to be worried about the scales when your next check in comes around. Otherwise, a life would be pretty boring if it was constant restriction from a meal plan.
Had an awesome time up in Manchester with the Team. So good to see Robbie again and the other Full Boar bodybuilding Duo – China and Ali. I always forget how knackering trips away can be and how it takes me a few days to come down and catch up.
We stopped off in Birmingham on the way home to do a podcast with Christian Chapman. That was so much fun. We are normally a lot more prepared for trips away but due to being quite busy before we left, I felt on the back foot. Something to consider when mixing bodybuilding with travel is how beneficial it is to be prepared. Luckily with it being an off season phase, it wasn’t too much of an issue but if you are on prep and darting round the country – give yourself time to prep before hand. Freezing pre cooked meat is a handy way of keeping things cool if needs be as is a sandwich bag with protein/ cream of rice.
Training in different gyms is something I find slightly daunting but focused on not letting that be “a thing” on this trip. I used my warm up time to feel out different bits of kit and worked out what I was going to do in my session based on that.
So thats around 12 hours in a car, 2 content filming sessions, 3 off plans, 2 bored ish doggos (don’t worry, they had lots of cuddles and attention, just the car journey probably wasn’t that fun) and 3 podcasts in one week (also recorded an episode of As Prescribed with Dan and an episode of my WPD podcast). So yeah, pretty hectic and glad to be home but defo had a good time.
